Things We Say We Want, But Let Wither on the Vine.

by Adam Donshik

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I could say that either hasn’t already been said a million times by people far smarter than myself, or would be of any value to another person. An ironic opening line, since anyone who knows me is aware I have a lot to say on a lot of subjects at all times, or even when anyone around me may be only half-listening. But, as the saying goes, “Opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one.” Seems I may be made up of a lot of assholes.

Nonetheless, this will not be a blog that focuses on current events fresh from the doom-scrolling feeds of the many apps that have turned us all into willing oversharers and commercially viable products to which they happily hawk the next great fad. My love of the apps that shall remain nameless is nonexistent. They have been foisted on a hungry audience primed by education cuts since the 80s to look for the proverbial fountain of youth spewing free money into the air once you put your life savings into this or that pyramid scheme.

Instead, I think I am going to spend the few and far between moments looking at my own profound emotional swings brought on by a chemical imbalance and severely diminished executive processing ability. Because that’s exciting and super interesting to read.

More importantly, it is the legacy that I am apparently leaving to my kids.

I will do my best to mitigate blame, assume responsibility for my actions, and accept uncontrollable external factors for what they are: beyond my control. Additionally, I will not use AI to write any of this, but that doesn’t mean I won’t allow it to fix my grammar.

So… this is the start. Brought on because I have to fix the template I am writing the posts on, but that’s just today’s excuse to get a-typing.

And who knows, maybe this will help me confront the editing and publishing of the book of daily Haikus I wrote when my son was 4. He’s not 4 anymore. And he hasn’t been for quite some time.
